Local talent on the main stage

Community Acts

Here’s your chance to shine at Thornbury Carnival on Saturday 6th July 2024!

We’re on the hunt for talented locals for our Variety Show. Whether you’re a solo act, a duo, a band, or a whole gang of performers. Singers,
dancers, actors, magicians, poets, comedians, gymnasts, DJs – you name it, we want to see it! And if you’ve got something even more extraordinary up your sleeve, we’re all ears!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The Variety Show (think Royal Variety Performance) will be on stage from noon to 2.00pm.
  • We’re open to all types of performances, from classic to cutting-edge.
  • To pitch your act you need to send us a video of the act – the whole act and nothing but the act. It should have the people who will be performing on the day – check now who is definitely available. They need to be available for the whole show and at least an hour before and an hour afterwards.
  • Just remember we are looking for family friendly acts! We want to see your best stuff, whether it’s a jaw-dropping magic trick, a hilarious stand-up comedy routine, a cute plethora of tiny dancers or an awesome choir of fantastic fairies. The more unique, the better!
  • Sets should last no longer than 20 minutes (including time to set and vacate the stage) – of course shorter ones are welcome too!
  • We can’t pay you, but think of it as a chance to showcase your skills to a massive audience.
  • Our main stage is 9.75 m wide x 7.3 m deep (that’s 32 ft x 24 ft for those of you who speak imperial), decked out with top-notch tech options like handheld radios, head mics, and a sound engineer to keep you sounding sweet. If you’re worried about your tech, set, or staging needs, don’t sweat it. Just tell us all about it on the application form.
  • So, hit us with your best shot – newbies and seasoned performers alike!

Any questions? Sending a file? Email: communityacts@thornburycarnival.co.uk

To pitch an act, please follow this link to fill out an application form and send us your audition video of the act you would like to perform by 2.00 pm on Wednesday the 8th of May.

We will offer the performance slots to successful applicants the following week (week commencing May 13th).

We recommend you don’t leave it to the last minute as sometimes those pesky files get big and creativity is needed to ensure it gets to us on time. Dropbox, YouTube, Vimeo, We Transfer or that kind of thing may be your best bet. We will let you know if your file has arrived and we are able to open it – the more leeway you allow the easier it will be to assure you it has made it and you are in the running.

So, don’t be shy, just apply! Get rehearsing! It’s showtime!
