Thornbury Carnival is organised and delivered by a small committee of volunteers working on a not-for-profit basis with any surplus funds raised being donated to local charities and support groups.
Our nominated charity for 2022 was the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC), and members of GWAAC attended the event in July, collecting donations to support their vital work. You can find out more information about GWAAC here and in the video below.
Past recipients of donations include:
Krunch – Running a facility for young people in the local area, the Youth Hub at Thornbury Skate Park, focusing on positive activities and emotional wellbeing.
Bristol Academy of Live Performing Arts (Thornbury) – Providing tuition for dancers, singers and musicians in the heart of Thornbury.
Jigsaw Thornbury – A small group set up by parents to support families with children and young people with any additional needs ranging from dyslexia to complex disabilities or health problems.
Memory Café – A regular event for those suffering from memory problems, their carers, family or friends. The Memory Café provides an opportunity to chat with others with similar problems.
PHASE Thornbury – A community interest company which seeks to draw together sources of support and create a community of organisations and services to meet the needs of young people and parents in the Thornbury area.
Thornbury Gospel Generation Community Choir – A friendly community choir, open to those with or without previous experience.
Thornbury Litter Busters – A voluntary group which organises monthly litter-picks and also helps to clear up after many of the special events in the town (including Thornbury Carnival!)
Thornbury Musical Theatre Group (TMTG) – A long established and successful amateur theatre group, performing regularly at the Armstrong Hall and at one-off events at other venues.
If your organisation would like to be considered as a Carnival recipient please email chair@thornburycarnival.co.uk.
